harvest festival

The Bloomington Community Orchard had their second annual Harvest Festival on July 26. I was on hand to help with a haiku contest and to do some participant observation while learning about beekeeping and fruit harvesting. I took some photos that I thought I'd share.
A homemade blueberry-peach pie was on hand for the winner of the haiku contest.
Local musicians were on hand to fill the event with lively music.
These (bee-free demonstration) frames allowed attendees to see up-close what the inside of a hive looks like.
And then the real beekeeping demonstration got started.
The crowd was remarkably calm, and no one feared the bees.
Here, the Orchard's resident beekeeping showing a hive filled was baby bees.
