On my 27th birthday, I vowed to reclaim more of my life. Two months later, I'm sticking to it. I've begun journaling again & working through more paper ideas by putting pen to paper. By the end of this holiday break, I'll have prepared three papers for conference & planned a new course. I'll also have fully settled into our new house, getting back to baking bread & watching movies with my husband in our new living room. I'm going to spend as many hours enjoying those LED Christmas lights as I can. Here are some things I've been enjoying lately.

Leading up to the talk, the College hosted a reception for students, faculty, & those in-betweeners like myself (Associate Instructors teaching & taking themester classes). Between bites of brownies & lemon bars, Bittman was snatched up into conversation about his favorite meals and his upcoming plans, about his outlook for the ballot initiatives being voted on at that moment. I was hanging back, waiting for an opening into which I then threw one of my former students (who had been a part of the team that put together the list of questions for the Q&A). I realized that these are my favorite teaching moments--watching students experience thrilling moments of self and community-based discovery, watching them become amazing citizens.

I'm heading to the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers for the first time this year. We're heading to Chicago for five days in April, and the very Rory Gilmore side of me is looking forward to the giant catalog of sessions for planning out my days. In addition to being my first AAGs, it's also the first time I've organized a conference session.
